Fantastic for the Shakespeare Reader
This is great for anyone interested in Shakespeare. Young or old, you'll understand Shakespeare's verses better than ever before. I heard someone say once that you don't have to understand everything about Shakespeare's writing, just enough to get the gist. Well, this book - and the others in the set - tell you all you need to know to get more than just the gist. Preceding each play is an historical writeup about the piece, and the characters and on the right hand margin there are alternate descriptions of a word or line in the play. For example, in Richard the III the Duke of Clarence is "mewed up". If you look to the right, it tells you mewed up is. Buy this book, and the rest. You won't regret it. But, the best thing about this book is that it's not a complete anthology like the other Norton Shakespeare. What I mean is, it's just big enough to give you everything you need, but small enough to carry around. Have you ever picked up the Norton Anthology? You have to be a world heavyweight boxer to lift it! So, save your money on a full anthology and grab yourself each one of these books. The Tragedies, the comedies, the histories, and the sonnets and poetry. Wonderful stuff!
