Good guide for newcomers to stylish dressing...
This is a good introduction to putting together a working wardrobe. The writer is a professional adviser to sartorially-challenged Bostonians, and as such is quite good at addressing the concerns of those who are clueless when it comes to dressing appropriately and well. The book has solid ideas on putting clothes together, some advice on body shapes and colour co-ordination, and suggestions for organized shopping.
My main criticism is that the book is too concentrated on helping the clueless to be of much use to the more advanced dresser. There is no advice, for example, on how to create a particular look or discern and assemble the rudiments of a given style. Another point is that too much emphasis is made on corporate dressing. Not all women work in banks and insurance companies or shop for their clothes in malls, nor do most women look anything but drab and heavy in a black trouser suit so beloved by the author.
To the more advanced dresser books by Doris Pooser on line, fit and style will be a better bet. This book is a good introduction.
