Possibly One of the Dullest Law Books, Ever
Perhaps more useful to the social science rather than law student, Harris moves drly from one subject to the next, leaving the reader cold with endless discussions of social policy. The poor quality of the paper and the typesetting hardly inspires, and makes an already difficult and frustrating read even worse.
Several other books provide more cogent introductions to the English legal system, such as the English Legal System by Slapper and Kelly. Whilst there are no concessions towards frills or thrills, quite how this makes the cut of any University reading list is baffling, since it serves as neither an introductory read or an educational one.
Law is not supposed to be the equivalent of gripping, tense dramas, but nor was it supposed commented upon quite so impotently by an academic.
Law and legalities - MADE EASY!!!
Firstly (ONCE AGAIN!!!), this book is not for the seasoned veteran. If you have an excellent grasp of both european legal systems and the doctrine of judicial precedent used in this country, then this book is not for you. If, however, you are not familiar with legal systems and structures, then this book will certainly help you on your way to understanding the main "core" elements of Law.
As the law described whithin this book is kept at a generic level, it will certainly help individuals studying law (regardless of the type of law they are studying) and also those individuals who would just like a firm understanding of how the law is constructed and used whithin society.
Rated 4/5 starts, because i'm mean and would never rate ANY book 5/5!!!
