Product Description

"Smith and Hogan: Criminal Law" provides a detailed and critical exposition of the general principles of criminal liability and the law of the most important crimes. This new edition has been made more digestible by dividing some of the longer chapters. It has been fully revised and takes account of recent very important case law, particularly the decisions of the House of Lords in B (a minor) and K (strict liability), Morgan Smith (provocation) and Hinks (theft). It includes statutory changes, particularly those made by the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2000 and the - so far slight - impact of the Human Rights Act 1998 on the substantive criminal law.

Customer Reviews

An Excellent Book!5
As with previous editions of this classic text, this continues to be the most formidable yet rewarding basic text in criminal law. It keeps apace of new developments in the law (such as those caused by the World Trade Center attacks)while retaining the insight, wit and whimsy one has come to expect. A must-have and must-read for anyone studying or even interested in the law, particularly criminal law. The clever organisation of the book means that you can delve into as much detail about any area that appeals to you!

Probably the best book on criminal law.5
Although every individual has different demands from a text, and each tutor will have favourites he or she recommends, I personally have yet to find a better book on this subject. I used the seventh edition whilst studying for my LLB and it provided the foundation for my success in the subject. Whilst there is no substitute for the primary sources to be found in a good law library, now I am beginning a career in law lecturing I have no hesitation in both buying this edition and recommending it to all my students. The detail required for a degree is met and in some cases exceeded, and though students at A level or equivalent may not require this depth of information it will make the difference between passing and excelling in your work.
