An excellent core text
This textbook is an excellent stepping stone to more advanced-level geochemistry, giving the student geologist all he needs to tackle more complex concepts and tasks. It covers subjects well, but not in excessive detail, and the pace is excellent. This book should be on the reading list of any serious undergraduate geology course, as it is a book that can actually be read, rather than simply referred to.

An excellent introduction to geochemistry
Chemical Fundamentals of Geology
This book explains the basics of a complex subject in a manner that is concise yet with enough detail, simply written but not patronising. It also has many helpful diagrams. The section on phase diagrams is particularly well done. I wanted a book that gave me succinct explanations that were self-explanatory and did not require me to go and read a lot of other stuff first in order to understand them. This book does that well and my copy is now looking very well-used!
