Essential Palaeontological Text4
This is an essential text largely because it is the only comprehensive text covering trace fossils. A key feature of this book is that it is seperated into two parts. The first half covers the biological processes which produce trace fossils, looking at extant organisms. The second half of the book looks at the fossilization side of the topic, preservation, classification, interpretation, application, etc. The book is well illustrated, which aids the understanding of the processes and the text is very clearly written and a relatively easy read for such a specialized subject. The only downfall of the book is that it is now very out of date and the material covering non-marine trace fossils is particularly out of date. The quality of the text though, and the lack of any other suitable texts, make it a worthwhile investment if used along with up-to-date journal articles.
