Peter Brook is the most consistently innovative director in Western theatre. In these three essays he returns to the concept of his first book The Empty Space and examines what that means for the life of a production. How can a company establish its own "empty space" - a rehearsal and performance environment which will encourage the actors to abandon the security of the hackneyed and release their true creativity? The potency of Brook's writing lies in his ability invest general truths with fresh vigour and to be as simple as he is profound.

There Are No Secrets- Thoughts on actings.
This slim volume of collected essays in an interesting, informative, conversational work that provides a simple and acessable way to confront the fundemental notions of theatre, the interaction between space, performer and audience. Brooks' thoughts provide an accesable way to expore the crucial ways of engaging an audience and helps to de-mistifey some of the high brow cultural ideals of the so called theatrical establishment. This book provides an excellent companion to students of theatre and performing arts, it is easily readable and understandable, it is consise enough to provide a student with enough knowladge but also provokes questions and encourages further experimentation and study.
It is good value for the price, thought provoking, simple and enlightening.A great idea for performance students.
