Product Description

The complete texts with photographs of the first series of Victoria Wood's hit BBC sitcom dinnerladies. Includes a behind the scenes look at the making of the series The book includes scripts and illustrations from the first series of Dinnerladies, plus new writing by Victoria Wood. Dinnerladies is about five women who work in the canteen of a factory outside Manchester. They come to work, they put on their overalls, they fanny about with their bean tins, they serve the dinners, they wash up, they go home. But within that daily routine they bicker, fall out, run into the toilet crying, plan romances, weigh themselves, fantasise, and try and read the telly pages without their glasses. Bren (Victoria Wood) is the strong centre of the group. She actually enjoys scraping bits of dinner into plastic dustbins. The only bluebottle in her custard is her mother Petula Gordeno (Julie Walters). And, oh what a mother! Serving alongside Bren are Jean, Dolly, Anita and Twinkle, the other dinnerladies. Plus Tony and Stan, the men who make life interesting. This dinnerladies book takes you inside the canteen and the making of a Victoria Wood's new sitcom. It includes not just the scripts for the first series but all the candid banter plus Victoria Wood's own candid snaps taken on the set.

Wow. What a book.5
This book is really good. Not only does it have all of the scripts from series 1 it also has bits that were left out, pictures taken by Victoria Wood. A very funny introduction which goes on for about five pages about the making of dinnerladies AND it tells you all about how to make chips the Victoria Wood way. A must for all Victoria Wood fans!

a great laugh5
A very enjoyable selection from Victoria Wood's first series of Dinnerladies. The series transfers to audio well and the 4 chosed episodes are very funny. Royals is a particularly good episode - but all encapulate Wood's humour and the excellent acting of the cast. Well worth buying!

Great show - shame about the voice over4
Although Dinnerladies is not Victoria Wood's best work, it is still very funny and quite poignant at times. The only problem I have with this collection is the really cheesy voice over that poor Duncan Preston has been made to do to explain the action. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does it is quite annoying
