A Liverpudlian West Side Story: twin brothers are separated at birth because their mother cannot afford to keep them both. She gives one of them away to wealthy Mrs Lyons and they grow up as friends in ignorance of their fraternity until the inevitable quarrel unleashes a blood-bath. 'Willy Russell is less concerned with political tub-thumping than with weaving a close-knit story about the working of fate and destiny it carries one along with it in almost unreserved enjoyment" Guardian One of the longest-running and most successful ever West End musicals, Blood Brothers premiered at the Liverpool Playhouse in January 1983.

About the Author
Willy Russell was born in Whiston near Liverpool and left school at fifteen. He went through a succession of jobs before, at the age of twenty, he decided to take 'O' levels and 'A' levels and become a teacher. At about the same time he saw John McGrath's play Unruly Elements at the Everyman Theatre, Liverpool, and decided he wanted to become a playwright. His plays include: ONE FOR THE ROAD, STAGS AND HENS, EDUCATING RITA, BLOOD BROTHERS and SHIRLEY VALENTINE.

Worthwhile, shame about the typos
First recieved this book and thought it was slightly thin. I was expecting it to have bits edited out. To my suprise the slightly small font (i'd guess about size 10 or 12) revealed the story in more detail than i picked up from the musical itself. An amazing re-encounter with Mickey Edward and Linda was brought back to life for me to read over and over again.
A few typos were present in the book which was a slight let down, but it doesnt subtract from the touching beautiful piece of art brought to life by Russell.
A must for anyone who wants to relive the play in their mind again.
This book is the scripted version including the song lyrics. It doesnt however contain the musical score. Yet, still a worthwhile buy.
Amazing
This musical is absolutely fantastic. Russel did an amazing job for his first musical. He not only wrote the script, he also worte the lyrics and the music for the entire show. I own this book and it is incredibly helpful. The script is very moving and when you watch it performed live, you are heartless if you don't cry. It wrenches every tear and pulls on every heart string.
My advice when looking at this book, BUY IT! Then go and watch a performance of it. Or alternitavely if you have already seen it performed, BUY THIS BOOK!
If you like the show, then this will bring it home for you.
If, like me you love the stage production of Blood Brothers, and you have the soundtrack, this is the next essential item. It helps you to relive the experience time and time again, and is useful in terms of spotting confusing lyrics etc. Foreighn readers can also benefit from the extensive glossary when trying to decode the slang so common in the play.
