could do better3
As an atlas, this book is rather small in page-size, and the publisher has chosen to make most of the maps smaller than full-page, so that most of them need a microscope to read. The appearance is scholarly rather than approachable, and makes no consessions to the non-expert, relentlessly black-and-white. I was particularly frustrated by a map covering most of western asia, which named isolated towns as dots in a featureless expanse of white paper. No national or regional boundaries, either ancient or modern, are shown. Given that the price is not low, you would think they could do better, but having searched for better I have not found it yet, except for a rather basic, old second-hand atlas which actually showed regions picked out in different colours, named provinces and mountain ranges. But that was publishing in 1934.

good buy4
I find it good value for money and an excellent source of information for classics students. No, there are no colourful production techniques, but all the basic information is there and easily locatable by the efficient index. So far, it has not failed to produce the location of every site for which I have been searching; further, the sections are divided into periods that are historically appropriate. Delighted that I bought it.
