The best book for understanding modern demcracy
Most books of philosophers appear to be written for other philosophers. This book is different. Plato is considered by many one of the greatest philosophers. Few know that even though he was a great philospher, he was violently opposed to democracy. PLato's method of attacking democracy is certainly the most skilful ever made. Poppper destroys in an extroadinarily lucid and fascinating way all of Plato's arguments. Through his analysis the reader gains a thorough understanding of the essence of democracy. "Open society" describes the lessons learned since the Greeks about the underpinnings of an effctive democracy.
Essential reading
Sir Karl gives an extremely powerful critique of Plato through an alternative "historicist" interpretation. Popper exposes the hidden intent and motivation behind Plato's "verbal fireworks", making the piece essential reading for anyone undertaking a study of Plato's political philosophy.
