Customer Reviews
clear and intelligent read...
its clarity in exploring the various dimensions of the Jungian world is admirable - with faint whiffs of condescenion blowing through the prose at times - it is concise and desite occasional dryness, does its job well - copying, i suppose, the famous volume Freud and Freudians written years before by another critic. Samuels is a practitioner, so his theory and his report on other's theories is grounded, and for that reason, it is highly useful. he is impartial which is what makes it dry, but he himself is at the forefront of Jungian thought and has not been afraid in his own writings elsewhere to be controversial - a transparency about his point of view is somewhat lacking here - but this is an absolutely essential book for people exploring this field.
