Editorial Reviews
From the Back Cover
For fifty years rivalry between the United States of America and the Soviet Union dominated world politics. At times indeed superpower antagonism appeared to threaten the future of the planet itself. This authoritative and comprehensive history provides a readable and compelling account of the conflict that has dominated the second half of the twentieth century. At last, following the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe, it is possible to view the events that have shaped all our lives as a defined period of history - The Fifty Years' War. Richard Crockatt provides the first comprehensive and authoritative history of the global politics of the cold war. Uniquely, his perspective is neither that of the USA nor the Soviet Union, but encompasses the goals and fears of each superpower. The Fifty Years' War is a monumental achievement, illuminating every twist and turn of the first war to threaten the very survival of humankind.
Customer Reviews
Really good
As a student of the Cold War I have purchased many titles on the subject, many of which cover very similar ground. Crockatt's book stands out as the one which I always return to first as it is really quite readable.
