Editorial Reviews

Review
'A rich and interesting piece ... it makes many incisive points. Time and again I found myself saying to myself I didn't know that or I haven't thought of that before ... I found it stimulating to read.' - Alan Megill, University of Virginia, USA

'An excellent introduction ... to the philosophical backcloth underlying different historians and historical schools. It is somewhat of a little gem ... a most informative, well-constructed, engaging read.' - Mick Lemin, University of Ulster

Customer Reviews

An engaging overview of a most fascinating subject4
...The book is a stimulating read, covering the vast subject of the modern age's attempts to write history. Bentley delivers his views with warmth, humor and wit and at times his insight into periods or authors serves the practical purpose of understanding your history in a richer sense. It should be standard fare for university students who want to engage with their history at a more meaningful level and it will help them arrive at ther own conclusions to questions such as what does history mean, what does it mean to write it and what does it tell us about ourselves and the world we inhabit. A stimulating introduction which will hopefully lead to further study.
