From the Back Cover
Supervising the Counsellor provides the first comprehensive, accessible model of counsellor supervision in the UK and will be widely welcomed by counselling practitioners. It meets the needs of the trained and experienced practitioner, as well as the supervision requirements of the student or trainee counsellor. Steve Page and Val Wosket, both of whom have wide experience and training in supervision, explode the myth that an experienced counsellor necessarily makes a good supervisor and argue that training and development are essential for effective supervision. Using examples from their own diverse experience as practitioners, the authors provide a systematic and thoughtful account of counsellor supervision from its beginnings through to its emergence as a sophisticated tool of professional development. Readers looking for a supervisor will find here clear guidance on what to seek out and expect from competent supervision, while those about to move into or already engaging in supervision are provided with an excellent framework for organising and making sense of the supervision process.

My 100-word book review4
Supervising the Counsellor is a clearly-written and informative description of the Cyclical Model of counselling supervision; I am new to counselling, but nevertheless found this book to be a fine, solid introduction to supervision. The authors attempt to define what supervision is and isn’t; mentoring appears to come closest to their definition. The role varies; inexperienced counsellors may need more guidance, seasoned ones might need a fresh point of view to ward off burn-out (could the opposite also be true?) The authors also cover issues such as potential pitfalls to supervision, the "ethical inquisitor" and "passive optimist" being unhelpful extremes.
