Editorial Reviews

Review
'An ideal introduction to the way the industry is adapting to a rapidly changing environment.' - M Sayer, Law School, Nottingham Poly

From the Publisher
Few new editions can be more eagerly awaited than the third version of Rigas Doganis’s "Flying Off Course". Much has happened in the ten years since the second book appeared and airline professionals and transport students will surely have been champing at the bit to hear Doganis’s views on the new sweeping developments.

From the Back Cover
Flying Off Course provides a fascinating and topical insight into the working of international transport as seen from an economist's viewpoint. In the five years since the first edition appeared, the international airline industry has changed dramatically. Deregulation has become widespread and has brought with it new operating practices and management concepts. This enlarged second edition reflects these changes. It also incorporates entirely new material. Key aspects of the industry are analyzed in a clear and readable way including: the factors affecting airline costs; the problems of pricing; airline marketing and product planning; the impact of United States deregulation; European air transport after 1992; the crisis in airfreight; and the economics of charters.

Customer Reviews

Detailed, professional and highly readable5
What an outstanding book on the airline business.

Like all his work, it is readable and approachable. When I got my copy, I took off on holiday and read it like a novel and found it hard to put down. Even though it is readable, it goes into good depth and discussion of many technical and complex issues. And Doganis backs up many of his points with relevant real world data, facts and figures, tables and some equations. I use it for teaching a postgraduate course on airline economics. My copy is only 18 months old, and already it is dog-eared and bent from use. It's a 'must-have' for the airline professional bookshelf, travel industry and even total-aviation types. It is also a great resource for teaching.
