Product Description
Cities across the world are changing rapidly, influenced by the forces of economic and cultural globalisation and by the pressures for environmental, economic and social sustainability. City economies, landscapes, images, environments and social geographies are changing as a result of these forces. Urban Geography examines the new geographical patterns that are forming within cities and the ways in which geographers have sought to make sense of this urban transformation. Introducing both traditional and contemporary approaches and perspectives in urban geography, this book examines the globalisation of the urbanisation process and explores ways in which governments and institutions have responded to the resulting challenges. This substantially revised second edition of Urban Geography includes updates on recent urban policy initiatives and urban changes, including the influence of CCTV on the city and the impacts of Millennium projects. New sections include an evaluation of the impact of place promotion and a discussion of new cultural geography and the city. Chapter 9 has been entirely replaced with a new chapter on Sustainable Urban Development. This is a valuable introduction to the subject for all students studying urban geography.

Good basic urban geography book
A good overview of urban geographic theory is provided by Hall in this concise but informative book. With out going into too much detail into this complex subject, Hall has been able to provide enough information for one to grasp the basics making the book a must for all urban geography students. Due to the simplicity in the way it is written unlike other books on the same subject, the author has enabled people from varied disciplines to easily understand urban geographical theory.
A good introduction to Urban geography
As a Human Geography Graduate I can honestly say that "Urban Geography" is one of the best books around on the subject. It provides good back ground information on the concepts within Urban Geography for people either starting out in their degree studies or completing their final dissertation within geography. Hall's book provides any undergraduate with a complete study aid and references book that can be called upon time and again to provide information on any aspect of urban geography. With well written chapters, references to other text and key thinkers on the subject, as well as clearly defined case studies, this is a must have book for anyone studying Urban Geography at University.
