Editorial Reviews
Review
'This is a useful little book for anyone anxious to discover what educational psychologists have to say about children, teachers and education. ... Written for the general reader and/or the beginning psychologist, rather than for the established psychologist, and being brief, the book avoids the dedication to one psychological theory which reduces the value of heavier books on educational psychology.' - The MENCAP Newsletter
'This carefully conceived and informative little book does much to demonstrate just how crucial psychology is to all those engaged in the educational process. ... All in all, a very welcome addition to the literature.' - British Journal of Educational Psychology
From the Back Cover
Educational Psychology is a topic of great interest to many psychology students. In Psychology and Education, Susan Bentham has provided an introductory level text on this subject written in a user-friendly style.
The book covers the cognitive, behaviourist and humanistic perspectives on learning, including the works of Piaget, Vygotsky, Bruner and others. The practical applications of these theories are described. The assessment of educational performance is covered and the cultural and developmental factors affecting performance are discussed. Chapters on the special educational needs of the educationally disadvantaged and gifted, and disruptive behaviour in school are included, with sections on ADHD, autism and dyslexia. The book also discusses teaching and learning styles and the design and layout of educational environments.
Psychology and Education assumes little or no background knowledge, and includes self-assessment exercises and activities at the end of each chapter. It makes an ideal introduction to the topic for students of A-Level (OCR and EdExcel specifications) psychology and those with an interest in education and learning.

Customer Reviews
Clear, simple explanations of Educational theory
As a trainee teacher, I have found this book so helpful. She explains learning theories and how they impact every part of school life really clearly and simply. It does not go into a lot of detail, but outlines the main points and how it can be applied. She also gives little exercises to either check your understanding or to review what has been said. I recommend to anyone who is studying education!
