A must for undergraduate English students5
During my first degree at Oxford Brookes University I was lectured by Rob Pope, author of 'The English Studies Book'. This essential text book provides a very clear, detailed and user-friendly introduction to many aspects of an honours degree in English, from theoretical positions and practical approaches (the many 'isms') to common topics (such as genre, accent, dialect and poetic devices) and textual activities. I personally found the final section, a glossary of common grammatical and linguistic terms very useful for essay writing and exam revision.

Rob's book is a must buy for any undergraduate English student

On a final note: Oxford Brookes University has recently been rated by The Times newspaper as the best univeristy in the country for English.
