Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover
The theme of this important book is the influence of leisure and tourism on the production, representation and consumption of landscape. Increasingly significant as mediators of spatial identity and meaning, leisure, tourism, culture and heritage are only now beginning to be located within the rapidly evolving discourses of poststructuralist geographies. Embracing poststructural theory to develop analyses of space, place and landscape in everyday life, this book makes a vital contribution to three discourses.
The first half of the book focuses on different "ways of seeing" or representing landscape. The second half of the book examines different forms of productive consumption in leisure and tourism. Both symbolic and material spaces of leisure and tourism are examined in relation to urban and rural landscapes, heritage landscapes, gendered landscapes and landscapes of sexuality and desire.
Leisure and Tourism Landscapes draws on a range of interdisciplinary subject areas, such as leisure and tourism studies, cultural studies and gender studies, to supplement analyses from geography, sociology, history and literature. It promises to redefine the way we view our surroundings.

Customer Reviews

Beyond academic, brilliant thoughts for landscape thinkers!5
A seminal work and a fascinating read. The tone is less "soap-box" academic than simply "share our interest" informative, and despite the intimidating, "for post grad students only" post- modernist-perspective lables, it's a down-to earth analysis and assessment on our landscapes and leisure spaces today. It really makes you think about how we use, and perceive, our space and the land around us. A great read, one really feels the authors put their heart into the work. Highly recommended, even from this readers Asian perspective. This is not a book only for leisure and tourism students/academics, but for anyone really interested in their environs and their relationship to leisure. TOP MARKS.
