Editorial Reviews

Built Environment
This book gives the student a good introduction to the history and evolution of enviromental impact assesment.

Review

'This book should join a limited number of publications that provide the essential first stages on a rapid EIA learning curve ... Well written and referenced and should provide an invaluable introduction to EIA for a wide range of people, including students, practitioners, developers and decision makers.' - Environmental Assessment

'The book gives the student a good introduction to the history and evolution of environmental impact assessment. It covers the existing legislation well and provides interesting case studies and examples along the way to keep the reader interested ... Many local authorities when faced with their first EIA would welcome such a review.' - Built Environment

From the Back Cover

This third edition provides important updates on UK and EU legislation on EIA and SEA, on evolving practice in the EIA process in the UK and internationally, plus a new case studies section and important appendices, including key websites. Written by a team of authors with extensive research, training and practical experience of EIA, this text brings together the most up-to-date information from a variety of sources, and presents it in a straightforward format that not only provides a complete introduction to the subject, but also supports further study.

Students on undergraduate and postgraduate planning programmes will find it a core course text, as will students of environmental management/policy, environmental sciences/studies, geography and the built environment. Planners, developers and decision makers in government and business will also welcome the new edition as a very effective means of getting to grips with this important subject.

Customer Reviews

Introduction to EIA Glasson et al4
I have used this book for personal learning and teaching over the last couple of years and found it to be an excellent source of information on the subject of EIA.

The writing style is clear and good use is made throughout of examples from the UK and the rest of the world. Most students agreed that the book did exactly what the title suggested it would do and found it good value for money.

The main criticism which was levelled at the book was that a clearer explaination of how each element of the EIA fitted together in practice would have been appreciated.

Overall, an excellent text on EIA and one which I do recommend to all students of the subject and those who are involved in the EIA process.
