'The complexity of the subject matter has at least been reinforced in an informative document with a large helping of common sense ... written in a comprehensive and well structured manner.' – Building Engineer
From the Back Cover
As the construction industry develops greater efficiencies and becomes more integrated, the role of the project manager is increasing in importance. When he or she works effectively the savings in time and money can be immense. For this good training is essential.
There are different ways of approaching the project management task. This textbook takes a modern line, setting out managerial rather than techniques-based methods. Readers are shown how to evaluate the performance and outputs of a construction project and to arrive at a suitable strategy for managing it. Insight is given into the client’s business case; an integrated approach is taken to the management of risk and value; and guidance is given for managing people and for communicating across a broad inter-professional team. Existing practice is appraised critically, but fairly. It supports the concepts of leadership and innovation and looks at ways of developing competence in negotiation, in delegation and in teamwork in the special context of construction and engineering projects.
Hands-on experience of project management and collaborative consultation with industry enable the authors to give the book a practical slant, making it uniquely valuable for practitioners and clients as well as undergraduate and graduate students.
