Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Completely revised to describe the traditional approach in more detail whilst introducing recent developments, Douglas Scarrett's established text examines the process of valuation through its five principal approaches: comparative, investment, residual, profits and contractor's methods. The format of the first edition has been maintained; each method is introduced, explained and then demonstrated with worked examples, followed by commentary where appropriate. The concentration on one method at a time enables students and others to go directly to the method of interest at the time.

Property Valuation is essential reading for students studying Valuation as part of general practice, estate management or many specialised financial degree courses. It will be of particular assistance to first degree holders in other disciplines entering the profession and wishing to qualify through a conversion diploma or masters course. Planners, building and quantity surveyors and practitioners in other related areas will find sections of the book useful in understanding the process.

Customer Reviews

Excellent text and well explained.5
I am a chartered surveyor by profession and have previously lectured valaution so I do understand the principles of valuation. Notwithstanding I like to, and am infact obligued by the RICS to keep up to date with amongst other matters valuation and in that guise I ordered this book.

Now, not being a student I can fully appreciate this volume ie I don't need to wade through it to do assignments. It was a easy to follow text and the examples are well explained. I would go further to say that in regrad to development valuations this book is better then the RICS guidence notes.

Ok I am only preaching to a very small sector of the Amazon customer base but if you are studying or you are a veteren chartered surveyor, like me, then this volume is well worth having.

Tired old format.2
As a general practice development surveyor of 20 years, I found this book a little tired - reminiscent in fact of what I studied back at Reading. I was looking for something that set out how valuation should be done now - given the power of spreadsheets and better data availability.
Instead, this book is a tired and dusty approach.
On the plus side, it is competent and readable, and I would recommend it as useful for students.
