- Charts describing key stages in the development of motor, perception, communication, play, independence and social skills, updated in the light of recent research and supported by over 120 illustrations
- Information on what we know about how children develop.
- A new section on the development of attention and self-regulation
- Guidelines for the assessment of children through observation and interaction
- Advice on when to refer to specialist services
Guidance is offered on ages at which children typically achieve key stages, whilst recognising individual variation in the rate of development and the influence of the child’s environment. Not bad
This is really meant as a book for professionals, and not so much for parents. The langauge is more medical than lay, and if you're a Health Visitor its pretty much a must for your literature shelf, it's basic but a good guide to go back to every now and then.
Good revision guide
This is a very good book to revisit your learning on child development. It is a good guide for looking at normative development. A quick guide From Birth to Five Years: Children's Developmental Progressfor those who work as early years practitioners.
Is what it says!
Very useful little book to have! I'm doing a children's nursing course, but I would imagine it'd be useful to any course related to childcare. Everything you need to know about child development, in a small book (I always find this part best as the big ones are a pain to carry around)!
