Praise for the 1st edition:

'Finally, a book written for the general reader that communicates clearly and authoritatively the many advances that have taken place in the academic study of religion over the past generation. Malory Nye is to be congratulated for providing this crucial service to his colleagues and their students.' -Russel T. McCutcheon, University of Alabama

'The most comprehensive and accesssible introduction available to the study of religion from the point of view of cultural studies.'  -William E. Paden, University of Vermont
