Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover
Bruce Springsteen: Two Hearts is the definitive biography of one of the most important songwriters and performers of the last three decades. Critic Dave Marsh has traced Springsteen's career from its beginning, and has earned the singer's respect through his careful documentation and critical description of Springsteen's work. This biography brings together for the first time Marsh's two previous biographies, Born To Run (which covered Springsteen's early career through the mid-'70s) and Glory Days (which took him through the mid-'80s). Both were widely praised for their insightful and near definitive coverage of Springsteen's life and music. For this book, Marsh has written a new chapter covering major developments in Springsteen's career to today, particularly focusing on his album The Rising and its impact on American culture.
Until Springsteen writes his autobiography, this book will stand as the best single introduction to a major force in American culture. Also includes two 8 page inserts.

Customer Reviews

Doesn't do what is says on the tin.......2
This is a great book, it's just not the book it claims to be. Dave Marsh is a Springsteen insider, and there is a fascinating and comprehensive insight into the subject and his early career. However, the book claims to cover the period '72 to 2003 and this is misleading: the period from around '87 to 2003 is dismissed in the last 30 pages of a 680 page book! Marsh's original 2 books are repreduced here in full, and are excellent. However, the added material for this volume is a token update. I was left with very mixed feelings, and more than a little frustrated and 'ripped off'.

An excellent biography4
The previous review is a little unfair giving only two stars to what is clearly an excellent and comprehensive biography. Dave Marsh is "an insider" contributing to the Backstreets fanzine on a regular basis. Yes I would agree that the recent past is covered only breifly but that is because Springsteen is still very much a work in progress. Indeed the last four years have been Springsteens most diverse and intense periods of production in his career. I would have no doubts in recommending this book to anyone with an interest in the Boss and the importance of his music in reflecting the american dream.
