From the Author
The essential student guide to A Level and AS Level Law
This book has been written specifically to cover the new Curriculum 2000 specification for AS and A Level Law from both the AQA and OCR examination boards. It covers all the topics and modules for these specifications and includes all the essential information students will require. Each chapter begins with a list of key points, setting out clear learning objectives for the student. This is reinforced with a series of revision questions at the end of each chapter. Each chapter also has guidance on structuring revision notes with examples and suggested headings. Furthermore, the Study Skills section at the end of the book provides more detailed guidance on essay writing, problem solving, revision, keeping up-to-date, and exams.

The internet is becoming an increasingly useful source of up-to-date information on many aspects of the law and legal system, and I have included a list of useful websites at the end of many chapters. I hope that lecturers and students alike will find these helpful in negotiating the mass of information available on the web. There are also PowerPoint™ presentations to complement each chapter available to view or download on the Sweet & Maxwell website at www.sweetandmaxwell.co.uk/academic/home.cfm

The text also includes many recent developments - the Powers of Criminal Courts (Sentencing) Act 2000, the decisions of the House of Lords on the advocate's immunity (Arthur J S Hall & Co v Simons [2000]) and voluntary manslaughter and provocation (R v Smith [2000]), the Auld Review of the Criminal Courts, the Leggatt review of administrative justice, and the Home Office consultation paper on involuntary manslaughter, to list but a few. I have endeavoured to state the law correctly as at 31st July 2000.

Customer Reviews

Essential reading for the new AS/A Level law5
I found this book extremely informative, and well written. It is easy to read, providing very helpful explanations of legal terms. Each chapter is broken down into manageable sections which relate directly to the new AS and A Level law syllabuses. Definitely one of the best - if not the best - up to date guide for all students.
