Editorial Reviews
From the Author
This book has been written specifically to cover the specifications for AS and A Level Law from both the AQA and OCR examination boards. It covers all the topics and modules for these specifications and includes all the essential information students will require. Each chapter begins with a list of key points, setting out clear learning objectives for the student. This is reinforced with a series of revision questions at the end of each chapter. Each chapter also has guidance on structuring revision notes with examples and suggested headings. Furthermore, the Study Skills section at the end of the book provides more detailed guidance on essay writing, problem solving, revision, keeping up-to-date, and exams. The How to Use this Book section details the contents of both the AQA and OCR specifications and matches this to the chapters in the book.
The Internet is becoming an increasingly useful source of up-to-date information on many aspects of the law and legal system, and I have included a list of useful websites at the end of many chapters. I hope that lecturers and students alike will find these helpful in negotiating the mass of information available on the web.
For this Second Edition, a number of chapters, such as those on police powers, have been significantly expanded in response to the experience of Curriculum 2000 and the new demands of the examiners in practice. Other new material includes an increase in the level of discussion, evaluation and analysis in the substantive law sections. The text also includes many developments since the last edition - the Police Reform Act 2000, the new PACE Codes of Practice, the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002, the report of the Leggatt Review of Administrative Justice, the Law Commission Report on Fraud (2002),and the decisions of the House of Lords on strict liability (B v DPP [2000] and R v K [2001]), theft (R v Hinks [2000]), vicarious liability (Lister v Hesley Hall Ltd [2001]), causation in negligence (Fairchild v Glenhaven Funeral Services Ltd [2002] and liability for animals (Mirvahedy v Henley [2003]), to list but a few. The text also includes the main proposals contained in the Criminal Justice Bill currently before Parliament.

Essential reading for the new AS/A Level law
I found this book extremely informative, and well written. It is easy to read, providing very helpful explanations of legal terms. Each chapter is broken down into manageable sections which relate directly to the new AS and A Level law syllabuses. Definitely one of the best - if not the best - up to date guide for all students.
