Helpful starting point for BMAT candidates
This book contains tips and advice on what to expect on the BMAT test and what kind of skills you need to develop to do well. The majority of the book is taken up by a worked BMAT style paper. Each question has a commentary about different ways of approach and the techniques that could save you time. It also has copies of the answer sheet you'll have to fill in on the day of the test and the marking scheme. Reading this book alone would not be a complete preparation for the test - unless you ace all the questions - and further study texts are recommended inside. If you're not sure whether to buy it or not, try the online BMAT test first, if you need further explanation of what the test involves this is useful. But if that satistisfies your curiousity, use the time to swot up on your science skills or spend the money on reasoning books instead.
It only took me about 3 hours to go through this book but it did help me evaluate the skills I need to develop.
Very helpful and helps with all aptitude tests including UKCAT and US SATs
I bought this when I thought I was going to do med in London and eventually got offers with some good scores on both the BMAT and UKCAT. It's a mature and informative book that definitely helps prepare you not only in terms of what to expect but also about the necessary mindset you will need to have. However, what surprised me most was that after deciding against med, taking a gap year and reapplying to the US, I found that it was still pretty useful when I was working for the SATs. Essentially it just helps prepare you for aptitude tests in general since they are so different from GCSEs or IB, or A level. I didn't even bother getting a textbook or any help for the SATs and now I've got an offer for NYU so this book was seriously good value.
If you're taking the BMAT, you have to buy this
I bought this book as it is the official guide and it is recommended on the BMAT website.
There are example questions and answers for each section, and most importantly explanations of how to obtain the answers is given. This allows the reader to understand how to approach the questions, some of which are quite different from those presented in GCSE/A level courses.
As there are so many books and courses out there that aim to improve your performance I think its important to realise you dont have to spend loads to obtain a good score and gain a place studying medicine/biomedicine.
The website and book combined gave me all the preparation and practice I needed to sit the test.
