truly discouraging
My daughter became interested in this book when she was about 18 months old and already doing block puzzle pieces.
The pieces of this book are pre-cut, but not yet punched out of the book, this you must do yourself. The pictures are fine for a young age and the shape pieces are large enough for a little one to handle. The problem arises when the child is trying to place the piece back into the book. They only fit back in exactly the way they were cut. So even though the triangle shape has three even sides, they are not perfect and it was luck when my daughter would get it in just right. She found it frustrating, as did I, because she would have the right piece in the correct place, but not "just so" to make it really fit. At one point I taught her to line up the picture perfectly with the picture on the shape and sometimes that would work, but the worst page was the last where rather than the circle shape being in the form of a baseball it was just red (as are all the shapes on the last two page spread)...and so she could not get it in all the way. It was a very dissapointing book. Look elsewhere!

Don't buy this1
Terrible. The pieces ended up all over the floor and they were really hard to fix back onto the page. I actually threw this book away as me child (who is already doing jigsaws) got frustrated trying top put pieces in the pages. Don't buy this!

Excellent little book!
My grandson got this book very early on, before he could stand up and walk. He loved playing with the puzzle pieces that come out. He learned about all the shapes and also the animals. Some of the Baby Einstein books are better than others, and this is one of them. He wore out the first copy taking out and putting in the shapes so I had to get him another copy!
