Product Description

This is the second edition of a well-established, practical handbook and textbook for students and practitioners concerned with the handling and rehabilitation of tetraplegic and paraplegic patients. The new edition reflects the move of care of these patients to the community and non-specialist units, and changes in legislation on moving and handling techniques. The text is heavily illustrated with clear line drawings showing step-by-step sequences for moving and handling, making it very practical for therapists.

very useful5
Having been a student initiated on the 2nd edition and followed further ones, this takes the book to another level. The ring-bound format is excellent, as it lends itself to the "manual" role this book has.
It retains the classic illustrated guidance for treatment, as a resource for understanding why techniques are applied as they are, and yet recent additions have added to the content especially in keeping up to date with recent treatment approaches in the management of spinal cord injury. It covers all levels of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI); paraplegia, tetraplegia, ultra high, and incomplete lesions. Among the welcome additions is the inclusion of ASIA scales and updates of referenced recent research results in relation to living with a spinal cord injury.
Information on the latest research into spinal cord repair is not included and neither should it be, this can be followed on appropriate web-sites.

This text is a must for physiotherapists in spinal units, but also offers invaluable comprehensive information on all areas of the management of SCI for general hospital departments.
