Product Description

This textbook in the Illustrated Colour Text series offers an integrated treatment of sociology and psychology for medical students. It is presented in a much more colourful and graphic format than is usual for books on these two subjects. This integration reflects the tendency to teach these two subjects together as "behavioural science", with an increased stress on the place of medicine in society, and on illness as a product of psychological and social circumstances rather than merely a biological phenomenon. The book reflects these trends and has been successful and popular with students. This third edition contains a new introduction on the importance and key features of the biopsychosocial model and additional double-page spreads on International Health and Rural Health.

Ideal as a supportive textbook.4
An illustrated colour text covering off all aspects of the lifespan as well as health promotion, society and health and how health services work -to name but a few.

Each chapter has case studies, `stop-think' sections which encourage active reflection and reinforcement of learning through small bite sized reinforced chunks of information.

I found the readability of this book the most appealing with it being incredibly easy to read and use.

Great for an overview of IGS module4
This book has almost everything you could want, and enough to point in the right direction for everything else. Very useful.

not good enough2
If you buy this book, you will be wasting your money, it is simply not good enough.

Yes, every topic is layed out on a nice double page spread, but surely its far more important that you get the right information, rather than being able to fit it all on a double page. this means that some topics are simple not covered in enough detail, whilst others contain a lot of waffle, just to make it fill the double page.

psychological theories are never covered in enough detail, and even when they are mentioned (which is not often enough) the explanations are not detailed enough.

The obvious choice in this field in the cambridge handbook, although it is pricey and not an easy read.
My recommendation would be ogden - its a good compromise between alder and the cambridge handbook.
