The complete plab objective structured clinical examination
Having gone through plab system any book that mentions the name plab always interests me. I should say I am not disappointed with this one. It is important that any book that targets PLAB candidates should be simple, user friendly, up to date and exam friendly. The complete PLAB - OSCE takes the credit for all those aspects. It is well split into 6 sections and covers important aspects of PLAB exam. The section on history taking, counselling were the highlights of this book. The authors have adapted a style which stresses on how to ask the relevant questions in simple english. They have also given a set of questions that one would ask in a given scenario. I have not seen this style in any book catering towards PLAB. Other positive point include photographs regarding practical procedures along with explanation. The best part of the book from my personel point of view is the section on how to answer telepnones calls. Eventhough it is a essential part of day to day practice in regular clinical duties it is not usually catered for.
Th main down side I think for this book will be its price. It is expensive considering the fact that the entire readership will be based at developing countries.
In summary I will recommend this book to anyone who has started preparing for PLAB or having problems passing it. It will certainly be one of the books that will be in PLAB circles for a long time.Well done authors.
The complete PLAB: OSCEs the first authoritative PLAB book
Summary: An invaluable book for overseas doctors wishing to train in the UK.
The complete PLAB: OSCEs is the first comprehensive book on the 'objective structured clinical examination' for the PLAB. The authors have done a huge service to all those overseas doctors wishing to train in the UK.
It has been well researched and the problems faced by overseas doctors has been genuinely highlighted. The advice provided with regards to preparation for the exam will be invaluable.
History and examination is PLAB oriented and very well summarised. The counselling section will be a boon for doctors having difficulty in spoken english. The telephone call section is very interesting and almost real.
On the whole I am very happy that this book is available. The authors need to be congratulated for producing such a useful book.
Excellent for medical students
EMQs are gradually becoming the chosen way to examine medical studednts as well as international doctors. I reckon this is the best EMQ book I have found so far for practicing for medical school exams. The explanations of the answers are brilliant - absolutely 100% efficient revision. Tom
