Customer Reviews

This is the only book you need for communication skills5
Few books would move me to write a review, but this is definitely one of them. This book is rich with worthwhile information that every medical student should know be it for finals or FY1. It has an amazing section for breaking bad news, consent for common procedures like bronchoscopy, information giving and histories, which although commonly examined in finals are rarely found in books.

My favourite things about this book include the scripts that show you both how to communicate, and how not to; amazing factsheets on procedures commonly examined in finals; and example phrases for approaching sensitive subjects and in a non-jargon fashion.

This is one book I would highly recommend. I've never read anything quite like it. Well done authors....I can honestly say I felt this book got me through finals.

Excellent5
I found this book very useful and interesting to read.I used it as a prep. manual for my PACES examination and learnt a lot of new things. It also helped me to refine the way I talk to my patients in the wards on a regular basis. The case based approach and the actual dialogues helped me very much.
The fact sheets were an excellent revision materials which could be read in quick time.
It was easy to follow, well written and will help anyone preparing for an exam which has communication skills as a part be it Final MB or PACES.
I highly recommend this as a must read before examiantions.

A must for a medic!!5
Communication skills is now a key aspect of the curriculum at Medical School and an area that one can pass or fail on. In my view 'Communication Skills for Final MB' gives a brilliant foundation from which to build on and is a must have if you dont want the communication's section of any OSCE to be your downfall.
It gives a clear and concise step-by-step approach to taking a history effectively and efficiently and although the book focuses primarily on communication skills it has important clinical fact sheets throughout to help understand the history better.
I was particulary impressed by the fact that the book was case driven, with every chapter based around everyday cases that you may encounter on the wards, in outpatients or in the surgery, it makes it easier to understand and read.
I must therefore throughly recommend it to anyone taking medical OSCE's and i am not at all surprised it won 'BMA Student Textbook award 2006'.
