Cutthroat
The plot is interesting, if overly complicated. The biggest problem is the characters, they have no personality or distinctive qualities from each other. They become faceless chess pieces on a board making it difficult to care about what happens to any of them. The plot also lacks a good pay off. By about mid-way through the novel, the plot is more or less worked out and the last quarter is a bit of a trudge to get, well, not very far. If Slade spent more time developing the characters as he does the plot, his books would improve dramatically. As it is, Cutthroat is not without appeal but the reader is left too detached from the events that take place.
