Product Description

Experience the forces behind the changes in the IT, Mobile Telecom and Media industries through real–life cases from this converging market!

Mobile Media and Applications – From Concept to Cash shows how to address the challenges of consumer marketing, technology strategy and delivery tactics for new 3G services from a pragmatic ‘how they did it’ approach. Combining the authors’ technical competence, business experience and consumer understanding, the book pinpoints the pitfalls and keys to success in the industry.  The authors offer an end–to–end view, covering customer needs, analysis of the many complex value chains, the capabilities and limitations of the technologies, and the packaging and launch of new mobile services.  Based on real case studies and experiences, analysis and advice is given to help the reader succeed in the real world.

Mobile Media and Applications – From Concept to Cash:

  • Explains how media companies can go mobile, how the telecoms, media and IT industries are converging and how even a frog can top the CD singles chart with a ringtone.
  • Built heavily on case studies from real implementations and launches of services such as mobile TV, music and gaming.
  • Describes how many service environments today are failing and highlights best practices to make them efficient and powerful.
  • For the first time ever, the impact of mobile devices and customer behavior for mobile services is analyzed in depth.
  • Offers an accompanying website with additional case studies, articles and links to the best developer forums and resources.

Decision makers, professionals and application developers in the IT, Telecoms and Media industries, as well as enterprises, analysts, consultants, financial services, and journalists will find this an invaluable guide to creating successful mobile services. Advanced students in Electrical Engineering and Telecoms as well as business schools will find this book a useful addition to their reading list.

Editorial Reviews

From the Inside Flap
"The time for this book is now. Innovations such as mobile music and mobile TV are driving our industry, but success ultimately comes down to customers. This book is unique in its in–depth study of customers and their need for mobile services."

Santie Botha, Group Marketing Director, MTN Group

"Turning mobile services into revenue requires a broad understanding of both business and technical aspects. I am very impressed with how this book explains unique technical challenges while still covering a broad range of commercial topics."

Erik Ott, Partner, Rainmaker Capital San Francisco

"The mobile media world is full of promise and expectation. While mobile media theories abound, here finally is a book that moves beyond the theoretical into the practical. It′s a sharing of real–life experiences that can help companies use the mobile channel to offer the best product possible to their customers and audiences. Even media companies with a great deal of experience in the mobile space will benefit from this thorough and practical approach."

Roma Khanna, Senior Vice President, Content, CHUM Television

Customer Reviews

Insightful voices of experience give pointers that work5
I've been using the book to work on a strategy for a service launch that is not mobile media related, and I can say with complete honesty that the concepts and approaches outlined in the book can be applied to all kinds of service launches. Of course, the specifics are there for mobile media apps, but good advice and experience are always of benefit.

Waste of money1
Had to buy this book as part of a programming module in university. What a dissapointment and waste of money. Not for developers that for sure.

Links market need to apps development and marketing superbly5
The authors have deep experience of developing and marketing mobile apps and there's something here for both the commercial and technical/development guys in any mobile apps business. It's a fast-moving world though, and the book could do with updating now to reflect that fact, but don't let that deter you from buying a copy. The principles and considerations described are as valid now as when the book was published.
