Most important parts of the military missing
whilst i found this to be an extremly informative book, i was very dissapointed to see that military forces such as the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy were not even really mentioned!!!! clearly two massive influential entities that have had a huge influenece on the past and how we are able live our lives today had been completely forgotten! whilst i am not asking for a complete history of both of these forces(that would require big Tomes in theirselves) i was astounded that the dates both military bodies were formed were not mentioned or even their founding fathers AND!!! to my disgust, in the top ten battles of England, that 'The Battle Of Britain' was not even mentioned! This was the most critical battle in the British winning world war II- If It were not for that we would not be known as the Great Britain we are today!
As a memebr of the Armed Forces i find that appalling, and so did my civillian counterpart- i suppose that's what happens when American writers and publishers are left to write about a military history that is not even theirs!
Amusing and educational
Very detailed description of all British campaigns starting from the roman era until Desert Storm. Detailed but never boring. The author has an good sense of humor, and an easy way to keep the reader interested.
The book describes the successes and the failures, from both of which the politiciansmand generals of today can learn. Recommended for everyone who is interested in history and military (both ancient and modern).
Good factual overview.
The book does what it says on the tin. It is Military History (not Naval or Air Force hence no references to such) and the previous reviewer is mistaken in assuming the author is American.
