An overview of classic SNA and some of the newer techniques3
The author uses an overview style to describe, in supprising detail, classical SNA (which he irritatingly keeps refering to as "legacy"). This section of the book is an excelent introduction to SNA, and I have used it as such with VTAM systems programmer trainees in my own company.

The second part of the book deals with trying to integrate SNA into a TCP/IP network. It has descriptions of LAN technologies, data link switching, ATM, frame relay, and APPN. All are dealt with in a very readable style; you can pick and choose any section (1-3 pages) to read as it takes your interest.

My only complaints are his proof reading needs to be improved (one page has both "cues" and "queues"). And in the same vein some of the many illustration (also supplied in Powerpoint format on an included CD) are either on the wrong page, or missing completely.

In summary, a useful addition to the technical library anywhere.
