Divided into two parts, the book shows how stratigraphy is the key to understanding the history of the Earth. The second part presents the results obtained by geologists, who have used these stratigraphical tools to reconstruct the pattern of global environmental change through geological time and focuses on the geological evolution of the North Atlantic region. excellent introduction for the undergraduate
The book is an excellent introduction for the undergraduate student interested in sedimentology and stratigraphy. It explains all the stratigraphic concepts and methods in an easily understandable way. The book contains numerous figures, all of them are clear. At the end of every chapter you can find a few references with comments from the authors. The book makes also a lot of links to the history of stratigraphy so that the reader can understand how these concepts developed.
The style in which the book is written is very lifely, I had troubles putting it down. For me, as a professional geologist working in the oil industry since many years, it was an excellent refreshment of forgotten concepts. For the undergraduate it will be a perfect introduction.
