Good text for the non - biologist
This is a very good introductory text for those who need to know the fundamentals of biochemistry. Computer scientists and engineers who are interested in multi-disciplinary work would find the text invaluable and the way the information is presented is exceptionally clear. The accompanying multimedia bring the biology to life and help explain the complex molecular processes of life.
For those who are studying biology at a higher level or those involved in biochemistry it is not really suitable and it is better to get Biochemistry by Voet and Voet which is the more complete biochemistry textbook from the same authors.
A good start in Biochemistry
I would recommend this book to anyone who is taking a undergraduate degree course in either cell biology or biochemistry. This book manages to explain really complex theroy to the reader with the use of simple examples. A point of this book that I particularly like is that is has lots of diagrams that help reinforce what has been learnt from the prose. Another advantage of this book is that there are lots of sub-headings, this means that it is easy to find relevent information instead of having to plough through large chunks of text. The contents page and the index also follow this pattern making it easy to find the information that is required.
