An Almost Glenn Gould Like Edition5
It is indeed quite stark, with little attention on dynamics or technique - more likely as Bach would have written it. Baroque was an era of 'inspired' interpretation and Bach's pieces were written 'In The Glory Of God', not laden with details as one may find in ABRSM publications. This is an open edition at budget price with complete freedom, perhaps with the qualities and directions that Gould may have given...

The freedom of choice is beautiful. Nicely presented and at a 'rock-bottom' price. Perfect.

To the point.4
This book is very simple. You buy it, you play the pieces on there as best you can. There is no essay analyzing the 48s, just some suggestions on reading marks indicating ornamentation and such things, and on with the score. There are also no numbers indicating fingering for these pieces, so the keyboardist must take initiatives here in trying to play these pieces. If nothing else, get both books for the price alone.

Not bad - if your not learning to play!2
There are two problems I have with this book: no fingering or dynmaics (for the piano), and very small notes. The lack of fingerings not only lengthens the learning of the piece, but means that less experienced players may have difficulty with the preludes and fugues. Also, the notes are very small - each piece is squashed down so much the notes are less than what I would call a standard size, and are pushed very close together. However, the price is good, and it is a perfect edition if, for example, you are analysing the works.
