Fluffy mathematics
This is not a highly technical book. If it's depth you're after, then look somewhere else.

The target audience for this book seems to be non-mathematicians who are gently exploring a certain aspect of maths which may prove useful in their field, whatever that may be. To this end, it abounds with examples from all manner of disciplines, from sociology to plumbing. As a result it comes across as neither one thing nor another.

It has a jolly and informal approach, a sort of "Look how much fun maths can be!" and succeeds very well in de-stuffy-ing a discipline which can all to easily be academicised out of existence. Very much a hands-on tome where you are encouraged to try things out, and in which the (far from difficult) proofs and technical detail is left to the appendix.

It may well appeal to the people to whom it was targeted - but as for me, I would welcome something a bit meatier.
