surprisingly, a thoroughly enjoyable read.
After reading some of Aristophanes' plays and not being particularly impressed, i was very surprised to find this a very interesting and innovative play. Women predominate in the cast and in the action making a nice change. The plot which involves a sex-strike and the seizure of the acropolis, although a comic fantasy, is very entertaining. This play also has significant meaning as Aristophanes is guiding the Athenians towards making peace and trying to goad them into making negotiations.

Enjoyable greek comedy
Easy to read translation of this greek comedy. Very funny, the greeks did enjoy a fair bit sexual humour! the pretense of the play is that women of athens go on a sex strike in order to get their men to sign a peace treaty with sparta, which allows for great comic momments.
was used as a study copy, for which the background information in the introduction was very helpful.
