_THE_ reference for functions and formulas.5
This is by far the most comprehensive reference for functions and formulas available. Standing at over a thousand pages you could argue that it's exhaustive nature exceeds a student's needs, but for anyone who uses mathematics, both in research or industry, this book is truly essential.

Every function you've ever heard of, and many many more, are approached from every angle. Rigorously defined, and hundreds of properties, all listed in a logical order. Useful formulas are always simple to find. Whilst the numerical methods for evaluating functions could do with an update in places, they are always clearly explained. True, the tables are larger than they need to be, but nevertheless often serve as convenient reference for tests.

This is a truly remarkable compilation. Perhaps a few hundred years down the line, this book will be regarded as affectionately, and considered as significant achievement as the first dictionary!

A great reference book5
This is an excellent, and one of the standar, reference books for functions and formulae. If you do much applied mathematics at all, then this book can save a large amount of time with its large list of properties of the various functions.

Large coverage of functions such as bessel functions, and hypergeometric functions.

It should be on the desks of most physicists and engineers.

A & S is one of the true "MUST HAVES"5
A & S's Handbook of Mathematical Functions is an absolute must have for any lover of mathematics. The explanations are top rate. With the abilities of computers to tabulate numbers rapidly, the value of the tables is questionable. But the mathematical coverage is absolutely without equal. Any function you can think of, and some that you probably can't are covered in steamy, lurid detail. The paperback is such a great value that it makes me whinge to imagine that any lover of mathematics could possibly pass it by.
