A bead lover's must have - lavish colour illustrations
Although this is the Concise Edition (Amazon have the full edition) it is, nonetheless, a very comprehensive book covering beads from 30,000 b.c. to the present day. It includes a beautifully illustrated fold out chart showing the time line of bead history, a bead shape table and glossary.
Written by Lois Sherr Dubin who not only knows her subject but shows a love of her subject not always apparent in some histories.
The book underlines the importance of beads throughout history whether for religious purposes or to scare the enemy. Primarily beads are used for adornment and the many forms and materials used by both men and women to show off their wealth and position in society have been in use over the thousands of years this book covers. Very highly recommended to the collector and enthusiast.
