Great Sports Photography5
A great book for anyone interested in sport in general, and a great reference for anyone interested in sports photography.
It is full of high quality photo's, covering a huge variety of sports and traditional games from around the globe (some, I've never heard of!), before, during and after the event. Coverage extends from the sportsmen and women themselves, to managers, trainers, owners and more. The well known names are there, but they have to share the stage with the not-so-well known ones as well. The photo's themselves are, I think, all colour (can't remember seeing a b&w), and are a mixture of [mostly] straight photographs, abstracts and those with motion blur and panning effects. And from lots of different angles - near and far. As I've said, many, many photographs, but there is also some interesting reading on some of the sports big names, and on the darker sides of sport, such as steroid abuse.
Can't be many sports it doesn't cover, but even if it hasn't got what you want, you'll love it for the quality and variety of the photographs. There are other books, also with great sporting photo's inside, but this one is worth adding to your collection.
My favourites are Chelsea's Frank Lampard, in front of the Chelsea fans after scoring, and the Venezuelan pole vaulter, upside down, as she prepares to go over the bar.
