What does religious experience feel like from the inside?5
This superb book will be of interest to students of sociology, cultural studies and religion. Csordas is a key figure in the so-called phenomenological turn in medical anthropology and here turns his considerable skills to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement in the US. Focusing on how both charismatic healers and healed embody their experience, Csordas is sympathetic to their stories while framing them within the contemporary psychocultural themes of spontaneity, control and intimacy. As someone who is currently working in social theory and in training for ordained ministry within the Catholic Church, I found this book both intellectually stimulating and personally challenging.
