Customer Reviews
Excellant photography and clear easily understood text
D F Malin has a reputation for excellant and exciting astronomy photographs. The book starts by giving the origins of the authors photographic techniques and experiences. Many problems and accidents , followed by photographic technique and film technology improvements, all help to achieve the results pictured in the book. The text guides the reader through how the pictures are achieved, what they show and how scientists make use of the information. Two startling statements are noted: Don't expect to see through a telescope any thing pictured in the book, even colour is rarely discerned. Secondly, a library of pictures on old film plates is being studied many years after the photographs were taken, because there is more data than personel can cope with. Excellant read for the technical and non- technical reader. A bookshelf must. Hope there are more to follow.
