Dense, but the leader in the field4
Each chapter in this book was written by the world leader in the corresponding field of space physics. This makes the chapters well contained, highly relevant and totally reliable. You can find everything you would ever want to know on the mathematics of space plasmas in chapter 3, for instance.

The composite approach does make the style of the book quite variable, it is not particularly light reading, and the emphasis shifts quite rapidly throughout. The problems at the end of each chapter vary considerably, from trivial and boring to extremely difficult (and boring). This is an excellent reference book, but don't rely on it completely for teaching purposes.
