Average customer review:Product Description
The King James Version of 1611 has been the most widely known and quoted version of the Bible for over three centuries, and has shaped both Western culture and the English language. The Standard Text Bible offers the text of the King James Version in an exceptionally clear and readable type. The size of the Bible makes it a handy buy for someone who wants an easily readable type, but not a Bible that is too heavy or bulky to carry. This Bible also has a glossary of 14 pages which explains some of the lesser known words of 17th Century English, and a Bible reading guide. Bound as a hardback with an attractive jacket, the economical price of this Bible represents exceptional value.

Customer Reviews
THE authority on English translation of the Scriptures.
I have recently purchased a King James Bible and in many ways have found it to be superior to the newer versions that you can buy in just about any half-decent book shop in the land. I would personally disagree with those who say that the text is archaic, naturally the English language has developed since 1611. However, this does not render the King James Bible unreadable, if it did then how is it still one of the most popular translations available? Thankfully, there is a glossary in the back, of mine at least, which explains the words that are no longer used. The text is written in a clear manner, which has made it a classic of Biblical translation and indeed of literature of we wish to be more general. As regards the issue of translation from Hebrew and Greek, I would say that the KJV surpasses the modern versions by leaps and bounds. If you look at the lives of the men who translated it, you will see that they were geniuses. One of them read the Bible in Hebrew at 6! When they translated, they did not do as many do today and simple paraphrase the Scripture or change it for aesthetic purposes. Essentially what we have in the KJV is what God gave to the writers, translated into English as it should be. Many modern versions take a verb and make it a noun, or take a noun and make it a verb. In the 393 years since its publication, no version in my opinion has matched the beauty and power of the KJV.
a masterpiece of english literature
..Since as English literature it is unsurpassed both in influence and majesty I heartily recommend that people do make the effort to 'understand the old language'. Any religious significance aside, the writing is of extraordinary power and will repay serious effort from believers and non-believers alike.
This is a wonderful Bible
We've bought half a dozen of these Bibles already for everyone in the family. They are perfect "reading" Bibles (as opposed to a study Bible). There are no notes, no maps, and no marginal notes. All you have is the word of God but the wonderful smell and feel of the black supple leather makes everything a joy.
This is the way a Bible should be published. Thank you, Cambridge!
